Jack, a Better Leader than Ralph

The latest news on the boys who were stranded on the isolated island shows that hunting and is the most important for them to survive.  Once the boys realized that they were trapped, they decided to make a signal fire. There was an incident in which the boys saw a ship in the water but was not recused because the fire had gone out.

According to Jack, one of the older boys on the island, he did a good job by leading the boys to hunt for food. The signal fire went out because in order to catch the pig, Jack needed all the boys to join in the hunt. The hunt was successful and the boys managed to catch a pig and enjoyed having meat that night. Hunting is more important because people need to eat meat to have energy.

Ralph, the boys chosen to be the leader of the group, wasn’t working very hard to feed and protect the boys. He was always worried about keeping the fire going and building shelters. If the boys has been recused at that time two of their members would still be alive, but nobody knows if the ship the boys spotted belonged to the enemy. Therefore, while it was unfortunate that the ship happened to go by when the fire was out, it could have been a German vessel and the boys will be put in jail once the German catch them.

  1. In Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies, British schoolboys are stranded on an uninhabited island, and they turn from civilized private school children to savage beasts. The boys end up murdering two of their own peers before they are rescued. Some would consider Ralph was the better leader and even though ralph shows some quality aspects of a leader like thinking long term Jack is a better leader because he has experience as headboy, has easily gaining the trust of other and he is seen as a provides who can protect his followers.
Jack has experience in leading other young boys. Jack is a headboy of a choir ( a group of boys) who seem to followers him through thin and thick. Jack “ought to be chief,” “because [he] is chapter chorister and head boy”(28).Jack has previous leadership experience by being "head boy"(28). This gives him a huge advantage and when he soon splits from ralph's group many of the other boys followed him for his power and leadership.
